The founders of Pure Gym have a wealth of knowledge and involvement in the Leisure Industry amounting to over 100 years of experience.

Executive Directors

Peter Roberts

CEO

Peter has been working in the Leisure Industry since 1980 and has been involved in several highly successful businesses in the field of resorts, hotels, pubs and health clubs. He has also been on the board of several public financial institutions that invest in Leisure Businesses.

Brian Scurrah

Development Director

Brian has been working in the Hotel and Leisure industry for the last 20 years and was co founder of Golden Tulip Hotel Group in the UK, which was sold to Whitbread PLC in 2007.

Angela Crawshaw

Property Director

Angela Crawshaw has worked in the Hotel and Leisure industry for the last 20 years and joined Peter and Brian 10 years ago as part of the Golden Tulip Hotel Group.

James Jack

Finance Director

James qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst and Young in London and Hong Kong. He then went on to be a founding Director of Armadillo Self Storage, a highly successful business which was sold to HSBC in 2007.

Senior Management

Jacques de Bruin

Operations Director

Jacques was previously accountable for 71 clubs in his role as UK Operations Manager for Virgin Active. He has a wealth of industry experience, having started with Virgin Active in South Africa before working for them for the last six years in the UK.

Iain Watson

Group Operations Manager

Iain has worked in the health club industry throughout his career, including 10 successful years with JJB Fitness where he held numerous Operations positions including the National Brands Standards Manager responsible for 53 clubs.

Non-Executive Directors

  • Sir Nicholas Pearson - Chairman
    Sir Nicholas is a former main Board Director of Intercontinental Hotel Group. He also served on the Board of Virgin Atlantic.
  • Julian Richmond-Watson
    Julian has run his own business in the property and leisure industry for many years and more recently has been heavily involved in the horse racing industry where he was elected to become senior steward of the Jockey Club in 2003.
  • John Murray
    John Murray is Executive Chairman and one of the founders of Ecofin Limited, an investment management firm based in London with offices in New York, Geneva and Hong Kong.
  • Tom Matthews (representative of Lesing Pure Ltd)
    Tom is a founding partner of Magenta Partners an investment management firm based in London. He brings over 8 years of investment experience spanning development capital through to mid market buy-outs and across a number of sectors.

All the Executive and Non-Executive Directors are shareholders in Pure Gym.
